Celebrate America’s National Mammal with the officially licensed Smithsonian Bison: Standing Strong Tornado™ Rollerball. Inspired by the Smithsonian’s Bison: Standing Strong exhibition, this pen honors the remarkable resurgence of the American bison and its significant place in our nation’s history.
For centuries, bison have shaped the American landscape and remain a powerful symbol of strength, resilience, and determination. More than 100 years ago, living bison grazed on Smithsonian grounds near the Castle as part of early efforts to help preserve the species.
In 2026, in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary, bison returned to the National Mall in a bold new form. Three larger-than-life bronze bison sculptures were permanently installed at the entrance to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, creating a striking tribute to this iconic American animal.
This Tornado™ twist-top pen features bison acid-etched into a stonewashed copper barrel, giving it a distinctive, timeworn appearance reminiscent of a vintage American coin. Stonewashed pewter trim complements the rugged finish, while “Smithsonian” and the pen’s number are engraved on the top ring. The iconic Smithsonian sun logo adorns the top disc.
Finished with a knurled twist-top mechanism and a smooth black rollerball refill, the pen arrives in a commemorative Smithsonian tube containing an insert about the Bison: Standing Strong exhibition. A fitting tribute to an iconic American animal and the enduring spirit it represents.
